In June 2016, I rode my motorcycle
from Land’s End to John O’Groats in a single day. The ride started at 04.40 in the morning and I arrived at John O'Groats at 20.30, some 15 hours and 50 minutes ... and 832 miles, later. The final 2 hours were the most challenging with heavy rain and strong winds. I did not break any speed limits ... by any significant amount! Pictures from the challenge are shown below.
Land's End - the most southwestward point of mainland England
Traditional cream tea before leaving ... & looking forward to the deep fried Mars Bar at the other end of the journey ...
My bike, a BMW GS1200, looks out over Longships Lighthouse at Land's End ...
Ready to go ...! ( ... albeit this photo was taken the night before, as sun up would be over half an hour after I left!)
... I was a good customer to the fuel companies, making 5 pit stops (approx 2 hours out of the 15 hours 50 mins total journey time). ... averaged circa 55mpg.
I reached the Scottish Border in 8 hours ...
... and made it to John O'Groats in just under a further 8 hours ... There were only 2 other people there at the finish point, Mandy & Carol, who kindly took the photos!
... all in a good cause. Thank you.
